Map of the United States in shape of a pig, commissioned in 1875 by the former sewing-machine magnate William Emerson Baker. In his retirement the eccentric Baker turned his attention to campaigning for hygienic farming and in 1875 held a big party with some 2500 attendees to launch his “Sanitary Piggery” – a new kind of hog farm featuring ultra-clean housing and controlled diets. A copy of this unusual map was given to each of his guests "as a good-cheer offering to all". While the borders of the maps boast various pork dishes from each state, in the two bottom corners lurk illustrations depicting disputes over pigs that changed American legal history.
